EnStyle - Parys

As I mentioned the other day, I spent Sunday in one of my favourite towns; quite close to my home......Parys!! What it is about Parys, I don't quite know! Perhaps the plentiful antique shops, boutiques, decor shops, restaurants, etc. It just has a 'vibe' of its own! I have made so many friends with the shop keepers there and just love their interesting and stimulating conversation.

I took some photos for you all again and trust that you will enjoy them and also managed to purchase some items for myself for a change, which I want to share with you!

I found some French lace off-cuts from one of my special shops - 'Merci'- and bought some beautiful "Toile" fabric! Just love the red and white theme for my new kitchen re-vamp! Also threw in some crochet hearts and a flower! So pretty! Don't know yet what I will do with them, but it won't be long before I make a 'plan'!

Did you know....?

"Toile-de-Jouy" is French, meaning "linen cloth" or "canvas". It has a decorative pattern consisting of a white or off-white background with repeating patterns of a complex scene. It was originally produced in Ireland in the mid-18th Century and quickly became popular in Britain and France. The term "Toile de Jouy" originated in France in the late 18th Century. In French, it means "cloth from Jouy-en-Josas"; a town in France.........

These are 2 large magnets which I'm considering framing. Found them in 'blou', which sells anything and everything in the colour blue.
Letitia squeezed this packet of Greek Kourabiedes into my hand on my way out!  I will get stuck into them once my fast is over! I just love Letitia and Rolandi! They are really so kind and caring!

My other purchase from "fraai" - Rolandi's beautiful shoppe. She spent time moving it around and it looks even better now. A feast for the eyes! She also has a range of 'Tretchikoff' products, which I adore!! Couldn't resist this little purse of 'Miss. Wong' motif. The notebook is for hubby - who is also a sucker for stationery. Although I am as well! I'll probably end up keeping it for myself! What is it about stationery.......?

Did you know......?

......the story of the lucky pigeon?

- One morning while painting towards his 1st exhibition, Tretchikoff had an unexpected visit from a pigeon. Being superstitious, he took the pigeon's arrival as a good omen because in Russia it is good luck to be visited by a bird.

Next, Tretchikoff noticed that the numbers on the pigeon's ID ring added up to 13 - his lucky number!
The pigeon was invited to become part of the family and in doing so, Tretchikoff's luck started to take a turn for the better. Every day the lucky pigeon would sit on top of his easel keeping the master company.

Today, the Lucky Pigeon lives on as the seal of an official Vladimir Tretchikoff product!

Trust you enjoyed this post? Thanks for stopping by. Tomorrow we go on another tour of some of the shops and one or two new ones that have opened!! Can't wait to show you. Have a lovely day!
God bless!

........back to Aberdeen......

These are the last few photographs that I have left of our trip in Aberdeen!

By the way......I am thrilled that my daughter, Cheney is also following my blog while she's sitting far away in the bush in Hoedspruit, South Africa. She's studying Wildlife Conservation and you can go like their page. They are called "Campfire Academy". Oh, boy!! I miss her terribly!

Back to Aberdeen.... we cleaned out Cheney's bedroom which is also a spare room and lately all the extra bits of furniture, basins, doors, fittings, etc, has been stacked in there. Much of that stuff is meant for the other house on the plot, which we are renovating at the moment. I have not posted any pics of it yet. Will do so when I have more to show. It's just a mess at the moment!
So, we moved the furniture around after we cleaned and treated the floors with a mixture that Adrie's granny used to make for the wooden floors on their farm; back in the old days. It consists of 1x bottle raw linseed oil, tin of Cobra wax polish,1x bottle of turpentine and thinners. Mix all together in an old tin or pot on top of the stove until the Cobra polish has melted. We used a large coffee tin. Stir and mix well, then apply to the clean (dust-free) wooden floor & rub in well. Polish off after a few minutes.

Some serious cleaning going on here, and shuffling around of furniture so that dad can accommodate visitors if they sleep over.

We cleared out the bedroom & stacked all the furniture in the TV lounge!

Better sleeping quarters now: waiting for my darling sister in law Deirdre!

A different angle. Had nowhere else to place these chairs, so will have to stay there for now, until we move them over to the other house!
See the baby's cane crib behind the rocker. It was given to me by friends we made in Aberdeen!! I am thrilled with it and will have to dress it up once I know where it will be placed after all the renovations are done! I believe it's about 80 yrs old!!

This is the old "Barber's Chair" we fetched in Mossel Bay,

..... and the Captains sea chest.

Adrie saying a very sad goodbye to dad.

She decided to give the garden one last water....

We stopped at Adrie's dad in Henneman, Orange Free State, to say 'hello' and I met his pet meercat! What a friendly little creature!! I have always wanted one and believe they make amazing pets!!

Goodbye everybody. Travel safely! See you tomorrow!

I spent the day in Parys on Sunday and visited En Style. My favourite place!!

Reinet Antiques

Well the time has dawned for me to share more photographs of aunty Ira's shop! I have in previous posts but she has new pieces of furniture rotating continuously!

There are actually 2 horse carts on opposite sides of the entrance welcoming the visitor to the front door and "stoep".

You will find the most beautiful tables and chairs.

The main "lounge" hosts a massive photograph of the King and Queen's visit to South Africa in 1947 and can be seen to the right of the photo below.

They actually sat in this very same lounge!

Ira may be the proud owner of the oldest fruit cake in the world. She found it in 1985 whilst cleaning out the loft of her shop. It was baked in 1902 to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Frans and Caroline te Water and stands on the beautiful mantlepiece.

A close up of the photograph!  Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth - seated, with the 2 princesses Elizabeth (left standing) and Margaret (half seated).
Elizabeth celebrated her 21st birthday in S.A!

The dining room area of her shop.

This beautiful old rocking horse stands facing the front door of the shop.

See the long and wide passages of these old historical homes!

I just love this old baby push chair. It belonged to Ira and she sat in it as a child. So, this one is not for sale!

I do love these massive windows with their storm shutters. All still original!

This old till is still in use and stands on Ira's desk. Unbelievable!!

Well, I hope that you have enjoyed the visit to her shop! I never tire of it!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a lovely weekend! x
